Scientific Description:
Bulb depressed-globose to ovoid, 1−2 cm diam., often with stipitate bulblets; outer tunics brown, breaking up into fibrous strips; bulblets numerous, black, brown or violet. Stem 25−90 cm, erect. Leaves 2−5, 2−8(−15) mm broad, flat or canaliculate, scabrid on margins, sheathing lower 1/3−1/2 of stem. Spathe 1-valved, c. 1.5 cm, shortly beaked, caducous. Umbel subglobose, 14(−6)cm diam., nodding in bud. Pedicels unequal, lower very short, upper to 8 × perianth, with numerous bracteoles at base. Perianth campanulate, ovoid-campanulate or ovoid-pyramidal; segments lilac to deep purple, connivent, outer 4.5 mm, lanceolate or narrowly ovate, scabrid on back or along keel, inner 5−5.5 mm, elliptic or oblong-ovate, subacute or obtuse. Filaments included or subexserted, ciliolate at base; median cusp c. 1/4−1/3 × basal lamina; lateral cusps 2−3 × median cusp. Capsule c. 4−5 mm.

Public Description:
Allium scorodoprasum subsp. rotundum, known as“round-headed leek” or “purple-flowered garlic”, is a Eurasian and North African species of wild onion. Its native range extends from Spain and Morocco to Iran and European Russia.It is a perennial plant with purple flowers and reaching a length of 90 cm.
