Scientific Description:
Annual, biennial or perennial herbs with erect stems. Leaves entire to 1−2-pinnatifid. Inflorescence usually corymbose, occasionally capitula solitary or in racemes. Capitula heterogamous and radiate, or homogamous and discoid; ray flowers female, disc flowers hermaphrodite. Receptacle flat or convex, naked. Involucre cylindrical or campanulate; phyllaries 1-seriate, with an interlocking and often scarious margin; calyculus (series of supplementary bracts irregularly inserted just below involucre, usually shorter than phyllaries) present or absent. Flowers (in Turkey) yellow or orange, disc corollas 4−5-lobed. Achenes subterete, ribbed, beakless. Pappus of scabrous hairs.

Public Description:
Senecio is a genus of annual, biennial or perennial herbs, known as “ragwort” or “groundsel”, and is distributed nearly worldwide. There is approximately 1587 species in the world and 28 species (31 taxa) in Türkiye. They have yellow, green, purple, white and blue flowers. Some species produce natural biocides (especially alkaloids) to deter or even kill animals that would eat them. The genus name is derived from the word "senecio" in Latin meaning "old man", that is, the white hairs of plant fruits are been resembled to the hair and beards of an old man.
