Scientific Description:

Perennial or annual herbs. Leaves ovate to reniform, crenate to dentate. Verticillasters dense or ± remote, 2−12-flowered, in axils of floral leaves. Bracteoles present, equalling or usually shorter than calyx tube. Calyx tubular or campanulate, 5-veined, almost always with 5 equal teeth, rarely with 3 longer and 2 shorter teeth. Corolla purple, mauve, pink, cream or white, 2-lipped; tube with or without a ring of hairs (annulus) inside, often dilated at throat; upper lip hooded, entire to bifid; lower lip 3-lobed, lateral lobes usually reduced, sometimes appendiculate, median lobe much larger, emarginate, contracted into a substipitate base, crenulate or entire, often with conspicuous coloured blotch or markings. Stamens 4, lower pair longer than upper. Anther thecae divaricate, hairy. Style bifid. Nutlets triquetrous, acutely angled, usually ± truncate at apex, smooth, warty or vermiculate

Public Description:

Lamium is a genus of annual or perennial herbs, known as “henbit” or “deadnettles”, and is native to Europe, Asia, and Northern Africa. There are approximately 25 species in the world and 15 species (26 taxa) in Türkiye. They have purple, mauve, pink, cream or white flowers.  Some species and numerous cultivars are widely cultivated as groundcovers garden plants.
