Scientific Description:

Perennial, usually ± hairy herbs, the descending or oblique rootstock with thick fibres; not stoloniferous. Stems usually solitary, sometimes few, each with 1numerous capitula. Basal leaves, when present, in a rosette, sometimes withered at anthesis; cauline none to numerous; all entire to deeply dentate, at least basal usually distinctly petiolate. Indumentum of simple (glandular or eglandular), stellate and sometimes plumose hairs. Capitula homogamous, ligulate. Involucre ± campanulate; phyllaries pluriseriate, imbricate. Receptacle flat, pitted, margins of pits ± dentate, sometimes with ± long fimbriae; without paleae. Flowers yellow. Achenes 3−5 mm, homomorphic, cylindrical, truncate at apex, 10-ribbed, ribs apically confluent in an obscure ring; pappus hairs in 2 series, unequal, rigid, scabrous to barbellate, free, dirty white to pale brown.

Public Description:

Hieracium is a genus of perennial herbs known as “hawkweed”, and is native to Africa, Asia, Europe, and America. There are approximately 2241 species in the world and 115 species (115 taxa) in Türkiye. They are hairy plants with yellow flowers.
