Scientific Description:
Shrubs or small trees. Leaves usually opposite, rarely alternate or in whorls, deciduous or evergreen. Flowers 4−5-merous. Capsule fleshy, 4−5-locular, dehiscent. Seeds partly or completely covered by the brightly coloured, fleshy aril. E. japonicus L. fil. , an evergreen tree up to 6 m, is cultivated around Istanbul and probably elsewhere.

Public Description:
Euonymus is a genus of deciduous and evergreen shrubs and small trees commonly called “spindle” or “spindle tree”. It is mostly native to East Asia, extending to the Himalayas, and they are also distributed in Europe, Australasia, North America, and Madagascar. There are approximately 142 species in the world and 5 species (6 taxa) in Turkey. The Spindle Trees are popular garden shrubs. The deciduous species are usually grown for bright red leaves in the fall or for decorative fruits.
