CISTUS L. - ROCKROSE
Scientific Description:
Shrubs with opposite, exstipulate, petiolate leaves. Sepals 5 or 3, the outer sepals not smaller than the inner. Petals pink or white. Stamens all fertile. Stigma subsessile, or on a straight style. Carpels 5 or 10.

Public Description:
Cistus, known as “rockrose”, spreads throughout the Mediterranean region, from Morocco and Portugal through to the Middle East, and also on the Canary Islands. There are approximately 52 species in the world and 5 species (5 taxa) in Türkiye. These plants are is peculiar in that it has developed a range of specific adaptations to resist summer drought and frequent disturbance events, such as fire and grazing.
They are evergreen perennial shrubs with flowers ranging from white to purple and dark pink. The rockroses, with their many hybrids and cultivars, are commonly used as garden flower.
