Public Description:
Briza is a genus of annual and perennial plants, commonly known as “quaking grass” and is native to northern temperate regions of Eurasia, North Africa, and certain islands in the Atlantic. There are approximately 22 species in the world and 5 species (5 taxa) in Türkiye. The genus name is referred to as the “quaking grasses” due to this, the flowers and seedheads shake on their stalks. Some species of quaking grasses are grown as ornamental plants, and are also consumed as food by the larvae of some insects.
