Scientific Description:
Lanate annuals. Stems erect or decumbent, often branched from base. Leaves simple, entire, linear to oblong, alternate. Capitula 2−3, aggregated in terminal or axillary clusters, disciform, ± globose (3−4 mm). Phyllaries few (4−5), small, scarious. Receptacle cylindrical; paleae c. 8, saccate, laterally compressed, each enclosing a female flower, coriaceous in fruit, deciduous with achene at maturity. Female corollas filiform, 2-dentate, attached laterally to ovary; hermaphrodite (functionally male) flowers at apex of receptacle, corollas tubular, 5-dentate. Achenes obliquely obovoid, compressed; pappus absent.

Public Description:
Bombycilaena is a genus of annual herbs known as “kısaayaklı” in Turkish, and is native to Europe, North Africa, southwest Asia, Northwest America. There are 2 species in the world and all species also found in Türkiye. Plants are covered with hairs that give a woolly appearance.
