Scientific Description:

Annual to strongly perennial herbs. Basal leaves present or absent. Cauline leaves entire, toothed to tripartite; bracts similar to cauline leaves or differentiated from them. Verticillasters 2−6-flowered. Calyx ± actinomorphic. Corolla with a short or long, usually annulate tube; upper lip short, bifid to obsolescent, lower much longer, with 2 lateral lobes and a larger emarginate middle lobe. Stamens 4, usually exserted from corolla tube. Style not gynobasic, inserted well above base of ovary lobes. Nutlets pitted or transversely rugose; fruit rarely baccate.

Public Description:

Ajuga is a genus of annual or perennial herbs, known as “bugle”, and is native to Europe, Asia, and Africa, but also two species in southeastern Australia. There are approximately 71 species in the world and 13 species (22 taxa) in Türkiye. They have 2-lipped tubular flowers in whorls.
