Scientific Description:
Stems 20−60 cm, erect from creeping rhizomes, usually unbranched. Leaves 4.5−9.5 cm, oblong to elliptic or ovate, evergreen. Sepals 1−2 cm, markedly unequal, elliptic to suborbicular, entire, persistent. Petals 2.5−4(−4.5) cm, markedly asymmetric. Stamens with reddish anthers. Capsule c. 20 mm, ovoid, on a reflexed peduncle.
Flowering time: May−August(−October).
Habitat: Shady woods and banks, 30−1200 m.

Public Description:
Hypericum calycinum known as “rose of sharon”, is a species of perennial shrub. It spreads in the Strandja (Istranca) Mountains along the Bulgarian, and the European part of Türkiye and Turkish Black Sea coast. A popular groundcover, with large golden-yellow flowers appearing throughout the summer and fall. It is found in shady woods and banks.
