Scientific Description:

Stems 5−35(−40) cm, erect, ± regularly branched above middle. Indumentum usually greyish-white. Leaves 12−20(−30) × l−3(−4) mm, linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, ± undulate. Capitula 5 × 1−6 mm, ± terete, in dense globose clusters of (15−)20−35(−40), 10−12 mm broad, not overtopped by subtending leaves. Paleae 4−4.5 × 1.1 mm, lanceolate, straight in fruit, yellowish, usually red-tinged on margin, with long yellow 1−1.5 mm arista. Inner female flowers 3 mm, 20−25; hermaphrodite flowers 2−8 mm, (l−)2−3(−4). Achenes 0.5−0.8 × 0.2 mm, oblong to ovoid, brown.

Flowering time: April−June.

Habitat: Dry open places, clearings in woods, nr s.l.−1000 m.

Public Description:

Filago germanica, known as “common cotton-rose”, is native to Europe, the Balkans, South Russia, Türkiye and the Caucasus. It is an annual herbaceous plant with light yellow flowers, and grows up to 35 cm in length. It blooms between April and June and is found in dry open places and clearings in woods.
