Scientific Description:
Perennial rhizomatous herb. Leaves mostly basal, ± orbicular, cordate, produced after the flowers. Scapes several, each with a solitary terminal capitulum. Capitula heterogamous, radiate. Involucre campanulate; phyllaries 1−2-seriate, equal. Receptacle flat, naked. Flowers yellow; ray flowers ligulate, female, numerous disc flowers functionally male, tubular, few. Achenes narrowly cylindrical, glabrous, ribbed. Pappus hairs scabrous. Monotypic.

Public Description:
Tussilago is a genus of perennial herbs commonly known as “coltsfoot” and native to Europe and parts of western and central Asia. There is 1 specimen in the world and in Türkiye . It spreads by seeds and rhizomes and flowers are yellow. Coltsfoot has been used in herbal medicine and consumed as a food product with some confectionery products. They are valuable plants which are used traditional medicine for the treatment of respiratory diseases. In the traditional Austrian medicine, Tussilago farfara leaves have been used internally (as tea or syrup) or externally (directly applied) for treatment of disorders of the respiratory tract, flu, colds.
