Scientific Description:
Perennial (rarely annual or biennial) herbs, or small shrubs. Leaves entire, dentate or deeply dissected. Flowers in axils of upper leaves, or borne in racemes, panicles or heads. Calyx often gibbous at base, regular or bilabiate, with 5 equal or unequal teeth. Corolla with a short glabrous tube and one 5-lobed lower lip, terminal lobe much larger than lateral ones. Stamens 4, exserted from corolla tube and usually arched. Style not gynobasic. Nutlets rugose or smooth.

Public Description:
Teucrium is a genus of perennial (rarely annual or biennial) herbs or small shrubs, known as “germanders”, and is found all over the world, but are most common in Mediterranean climates. There are approximately 287 species in the world and 34 species (45 taxa) in Türkiye. Some species, especially “felty germander (Teucrium polium L.)” has been known as an important traditional medicinal plant and is used for anti-spasmodic and antinociceptive activities in gastrointestinal disorders.
