Public Description:

Setaria, commonly known as “foxtail” or “bristle grasses”, is native to many tropical and temperate regions around the world. There are approximately 104 species in the world and 2 species (5 taxa) in Türkiye. The name is derived from the Latin word “seta meaning “bristle” or “hair”, which refers to the bristly spikelets. Several species are cultivated for food or as animal fodder, while others are known as invasive weeds. High levels of oxalate in some species can cause health problems for milking cows, horses and donkeys.
